Robert O. Ackley has been engaged in the practice of law since 1988. He received his BA in Economics from Northern Illinois University, his MA in Public Administration from Northern Michigan University, and his JD from The John Marshall Law School.

Mr. Ackley has worked for several units of local government, including the cities of Marquette, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois. He has also worked as a Detention Screening Attorney for the Circuit Court of Cook County - Juvenile Justice Division, and as a law clerk for the Regional Counsel Office, Region V, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

He has also worked in the not-for-profit sector, serving as the Executive Director of the Bryn Mawr - Broadway - Ridge Merchants Association. His business experience includes serving as President of Ackley & Associates, a manufacturers representative concern.

Mr. Ackley also served as a law clerk and administrative assistant to the Honorable Thomas J. Moran, Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court. He has also been a certified arbitrator for the Circuit Court of Cook County, and the Circuit Court of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit Court, Lake County, Illinois. He has also served as a panel attorney with the Illinois Office of the State Appellate Defender.

Mr. Ackley is a member of the Illinois Bar Association, the Lake County Bar Association, the Association of Women Attorneys - Lake County, the Appellate Lawyers Association, the National Association of Counsel for Children, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and the American Bar Association.
